Qasr al-Yahud

The Baptism Site on the Jordan River

קאסר אל יהוד ראשי_edited.png

About the Project

Qasr al-Yahud, situated along the Jordan River, is a sacred site deeply revered in Christian tradition. It is believed to be the location where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ, an event marking the beginning of His ministry and a pivotal moment in Christian theology. The site also holds significance in biblical history, being associated with the Israelites' crossing into the Promised Land under Joshua's leadership. As a key pilgrimage destination, it draws Christians from around the world seeking to connect with their faith's roots. However, the site faces pressing challenges, including the need for preservation, improved accessibility, and development to accommodate the growing number of visitors. Addressing these challenges is central to the objectives of this project.

Project Objective

  • Purchasing the lands through agreements with non-Jewish landowners.

  • Advocating for the preservation and development of the area for tourism with the Israeli authorities.

  • Clearing landmines to ensure safety and accessibility, addressing remnants of past conflicts
    along the Israel-Jordan border.
